How It Started
About ten years ago, I adopted my first dog as an adult: Tink, a black-and-white rescue from Arkansas. I was living in Boston, and we tried every dog activity the city offered. Dog-friendly breweries, tricks, intro to flyball, hiking.
Then we signed up for a canicross lesson. I had never been a runner, but it seemed like a good way for both of us to get some exercise. That summer we ran fifteen 5Ks, Tink building drive and me getting into shape.
And then someone showed us bikejoring. Someone else loaned me a sled dog, and I felt what a little extra speed and power was like. It spiraled from there. We went looking for another black-and-white rec-team dog and found Bolt. We got faster, tried kicksledding, added Hannah, and eventually left the city for rural life in Osceola, NY.
Why "Frex"?
Every dog on the team is either cow-colored like Tink or black with white feet like Bolt, and they all have spots. Freckles. Hence, the Frex.
The Team
Today we're 8 dogs and one human: Tink, Bolt, Hannah, Igloo, E-Claire, Sriracha, Clipper, and Nacho. Plus 3 goats. Goat mushing may be in our future.
What We Race
Canicross, 1 and 2-dog bikejor and scooter, 4-dog rig, and 2, 4 and 6-dog sled. You'll find us at New England Sled Dog Club and Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club races, a few CACQ races each season, and plenty of dog-friendly 5Ks.
